Safeguarding at Decoded

At Decoded, our purpose is to support learner wellbeing. We work constantly in the background with many partners and networks to ensure we have the most current information with regard to all life issues and all things Safeguarding.

As an education provider, we have an important role in helping you stay safe and protected from both physical and mental harm. This harm can come in the form of both physical or virtual threats.

Not only do we need to protect ourselves and ensure our security in the actual world, we also need to be aware of our security in the digital one.

What is Digital Safeguarding?

Digital safeguarding is about protecting individuals or groups from harm in an online environment. This is done by having effective approaches for managing incidents including practical solutions, advice and support.

Areas for online risks can be categorised into the 3 C’s — Content, Contact and Conduct, and can be commercial, aggressive or sexual in nature as shown in the table below. If you experience any of these issues, and are unsure what to do, please reach out to us at safeguarding@decoded.com.

What is Cyberbullying?

A person is bullied when they are exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons and they have difficulty defending themselves.

Cyberbullying is no different from any other bullying; the bully just uses technology to do it.

The anonymity that technology creates makes it much easier for bullies to operate. They once had to be a bully face to face or use the mail. Then, the telephone. Now, email, instant messaging, web pages and digital photos make it much easier.

Our must watch of the month — E-safety.

Decoded has launched a new e-safety video, which will also be shared with all learners on Bud very soon as an activity. The video is packed with useful information and covers all key areas of e-safety.

Our ‘interesting read’ of the month — Cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity is always high on the agenda ! Check out this article ‘What squid game teaches us about Cybersecurity’.

Remember to also review the “How to Stay Safe Online” section of our Decoded News Blog for additional information.

Physical Security — How to Create a Lockdown Plan?

The CPNI (Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure) has produced an animation which discusses the application of lockdown at sites. It explains that lockdown can be an effective measure to reduce casualties and fatalities. It discusses the need to design a lockdown of a site, and the complexities of lockdown management and offers options of ways to lock down which ensures acting fast can save lives.

Preparation is Key

Sadly the need to prepare for attacks of any kind will always be essential and the more knowledge we have (and share) the more people we can protect. The government released a short video (less than 3 minutes) which helps us to stay safe if we ever find ourselves n a firearm attack situation. Please watch, share and stay safe Run, Hide and Tell Video
